This is a corner building in the Bahmani district of Bandar-e-Bushehr.
Do/On Studio was commissioned for the interior design of the units after the walls had been erected up to the first floor. But after a site visit and investigation of the project’s potentials, the redesign of the building’s existing condition and revision of its internal spaces was also added to the list of the studio’s responsibilities.
The first thing that caught our attention at our first site visit was the unique green vista to the north, which had been ignored in the initial floor plans.
In our first step for redesigning the plans we moved the kitchen from the north to the south, in order to maximize the northern view. Thus, the main views from the living room were switched from west to north. This allowed us to minimize the openings on the western façade, which did not provide ideal daylight or exterior views.
In order to control and filter the views, every residential entrance was also redesigned.
The public and private spaces on each floor were redesigned and personalized by adding smaller functional spaces based on the users’ needs. For instance on the first floor, part of the living room was redesigned to provide space for a piano, while on the second floor it turned into a balcony, and on the third floor it provided space for a desk.
Laundry rooms and changing rooms were also added to the spaces.
The challenge in redesigning Residential Project No. 9 was in taking advantage of lost opportunities.
The site’s potentials that had previously been ignored were taken into consideration in this process, and we have no doubt that this will play a significant role in improving the life of its residents.
